This Is Middle School by Keith Kyker (Third Stream Press, 2016 - forthcoming)
I recently took a break from TweenReading.com, but there's a really good reason. I wrote a book - This Is Middle School - which is now available on Amazon.com (click here.)
This Is Middle School - Your Guide to Success is designed for students entering middle school, and their parents, too. It is loaded with advice about choosing classes, making new friends, participating in school activities, and staying out of trouble, too! My sincere hope is that this book will be useful to students and parents as they make the transition from elementary school to middle school.
Over the past 25 years I have written several books published by national publisher Libraries Unlimited (most recently, Teaching Digital Photography in 2014.) However, I am publishing this book independently through my publishing company, Third Stream Press. On the plus side, I get to maintain complete creative control over the contents, format, and presentation of This Is Middle School. The downside, of course, is that in addition to writing, I am also the graphic artist, designer, and copy-editor. All of these tasks are tedious and time-consuming. But I believe the result is worth the effort.
This Is Middle School will be available through Amazon.com. Other vendors are also able to sell the book. If you work with upper-elementary students in any capacity - teacher, library media specialist, administrator, parent - I encourage you to obtain a copy. Ideally, every incoming middle school student would have a copy to read.
Naturally, I want to sell a lot of books! That's a major motivation for spending hours at a computer. I am keeping the price low ($11.99) and I am offering a discount on the purchase of 50 or more copies. (To obtain the discount, you must buy directly from me. Contact me at keithkyker@yahoo.com for more information.)
Here's the bigger picture: This Is Middle School is packed with good advice that will benefit incoming middle school students and their parents. I worked in middle schools for 16 years, and I have a lot to share.
Best wishes,
Keith
